Rafael Vosseler

After graduating high school, Rafael Vosseler studied horn with Eric Penzel in Cologne, and with Andrew Joy and Walter Lexutt in Düsseldorf.  He participated in master classes with Peter Damm, Hermann Baumann and others.  Since 1985 he has occupied himself with the historical forerunners of the modern orchestral horn and intensively with historical performance practice.  He received important impulses and encouragement from the collaboration with Claude Maury, Jos Van Immerseel and Philippe Herreweghe.  Since 1986 he has worked regularly with ensembles such as Musica Antiqua Köln, Concerto Köln, Collegium Vocale, Anima Eterna, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Orchestre des Champs Elysées, La Petite Bande, Octophoros and many others.

recorded in 2000

Some rare music to be discovered, rarely recorded, by a German horn player who should also be more known.  Curious music though, still in the baroque spirit but with only one horn in all the pieces recorded here, which is not so usual at that time.  The rather more common way to use horns is in pair.  Rafael Vosseler is playing a baroque horn with some stopped notes with the hand in the bell.
