Born in 1974, Johannes Hinterholzer completed his studies at the university of Music "Mozarteum" in Salzburg (Austria) with Josef Mayr and Radovan Vlatkovic and took master classes with Wolfgang Wilhelmi and Peter Damm for modern horn and with Anthony Halstead and Andrew Clark for hand horn.  As a student he carried several prizes at national music competitions and in 1998 the first prize at the "Gradus ad parnassum" Austria.  This led to numerous invitations as a soloist and chamber musician.  Since 1997 he is principal horn player of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg.  Johannes Hinterholzer has appeared as a soloist with many distinguished symphony and chamber orchestras including the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Salzburg Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, ... performing compositions from Vivaldi, Haydn, Schumann, Saint-Saëns, Strauss, Britten, ...  Since 2000 he followed invitations for concerts on the principal horn position of many orchestras, such as Berlin Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, the chamber orchestras of Munich, Basel and Vienna, the Radio-Symphonieorchester of the SWR Stuttgart, etc.  One of Johannes Hinterholzer's special subjects is playing on ancient instruments: baroque and hand horn.   Besides many recital programs he performs with Concentus Musicus under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Wiener Akademie under Martin Haselböck, Les MuUsiciens du Louvre Grenoble under Marc Minkowski and many other international baroque and classical ensembles.  Apart from his orchestra work, Johannes Hinterholzer performs regularly as a chamber musician and took part at several international chamber festivals, such as St. Gallen Festival, Festival con anima, Habuka International Music Festival Japan, etc.  In 2000, he became horn professor at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz (Austria) and is holding master classes in Austria, Germany, Italy, Georgia and Hungary.
