Helen MacDougall

Helen MacDougall moved to Holland from Australia in 1992.  For twelve years she played with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and has worked with many leading European baroque orchestras, such as La Petite Bande, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Anima Eterna and Concerto Köln.  At present she plays with Les Arts Florissants in Paris.  As a soloist she can be heard on the label Caro Mitis.  Twice a year Helen dusts off her  Alexander 1103 and, if the valves are still working, plays modern chamber music with the Don Banks Trio.  Many new pieces have been written for the group, including the modern classic "When Suddenly" by Iain Matheson.  Helen also likes to steal repertoire, favourites being the Poulenc Clarinet Sonata, the two Schubert Trios, Corelli and Bach Violin Sonatas and Haydn's Zigeuner Trio.

A Bohemian concerto bohémien performed by an Australian horn-player living in Holland and a Russian orchestra, what can be the result of such a strange mixture ?  Actually, a very interesting recording of the most beautiful Rosetti concerto for horn.  Helen MacDougall has very personal and strong musical ideas and besides is very imaginative.  Let's hope that one can find this CD easily because it's really worth it.
